Summer tips

I have had an amazing, and very unique journey so far this summer on my three month break in between seasons with Vienna Festival Ballet. During adverse times, or venturing into the unknown, when being trustful within your own self, it is amazing what opportunities can suddenly arise.
After taking a fast decision to join up for an introductory course with the power yoga company, I ended up landing a job at their juice bar! And I am so grateful to have had this offer with the addition to be able to practice yoga everyday, and with such inspirational teachers.
Later on, with persistence, I became a new boutique assistant at sweaty betty, which is a huge privilege to wear and represent their brand.

In a nut shell, what I have learnt so far is of the importance in expanding a dancer's interests and opportunities. Especially when there are times when you cannot control a certain situation, and when you have more times on your hands during the long summer break! Don't be afraid to try out something new and explore different avenues. In doing so, even though not taking ballet class everyday, whenever I go back I still feel stronger every day with the compliment of practicing yoga. As well as having had different experiences whilst working a part time job, meeting new and very interesting people. I have found this has changed my approach and mindset towards my dancing in working and progressing on technique, and the idea of 'keeping in shape.' This is just by talking to others who have different views in life (for e.g a yoga teacher, or a speed-skater, or your best friend.) One thing for sure , is not to get frustrated if things go according to plan.. It is frustrating when us dancers don't have a routine we can stick to during a looong break, or when we have to travel far and pay for class. It is part of a dancers life whether in a transitional phase between jobs, or as a freelancer, or in pretty much in whatever circumstance. Just accept, and move on. And enjoy the present moment! Listen to your body too... it is not often in a year that we get to actually chill, take a bit of time off. Enjoy the sunshine, or a movie under the duvet with a cup of hot cocoa. Do whatever makes you feel happy. Find alternative ways to exercise if you crave it. Be kind to you!

Here is a little inspiration from Kirsten Evans on how to keep your cool in a studio (when you get the chance to dance, or getting back into shape again). And again- be kind to yourself*
